Sports Medicine

Running, Soccer, Martial Arts, Rugby, Basketball, Dance, Skiing, Golf, Football, even Walking ……

What do all of these sports and many others have in common? …the potential for foot and ankle injuries!

Sports Foot CareAcute sports injuries may include fractures, strains, tendonitis or tendon tears and ruptures, apophysitis, avulsed toenails, turf toe, stress fractures, and capsulitis. Each sport activity predisposes its participants to certain specific injuries.

Additionally, aside from exposing patients to the risk of trauma, engaging in sports activities can simply cause greater strain on joints, tendons, and ligaments, such that even mild foot deformities or imbalances are accentuated and can become symptomatic.

Methods designed to strengthen, increase range of motion, stretch, and support feet and ankles are used on sports enthusiasts and highly active people to address problems and prevent future problems. Physical therapy and training programs may be prescribed. Orthotics can be fabricated to add further stability and restore balance – critical during episodes of increased stress, such as during sports activity. Orthotics can be customized for ski-boots, skates, cleats, running shoes and hiking boots.
